NIU’s Holmes Student Center will screen “Captain America: The Winter Solider” twice this weekend at the Carl Sandburg Auditorium.
Free showings are planned at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, and Sunday, Sept. 7.
Released in April, the movie depicts Steve Rogers’ struggles to embrace his role in the modern world while he battles a new threat from old history: the Soviet agent known as the Winter Soldier.
The movie stars Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson.
Mark Hugues, a contributor to Forbes, said the movie is “one of the best the genre has ever seen, and takes Marvel’s cinematic endeavors in a more complex, serious and dramatic direction.”
“Captain America” is the first free movie of the fall semester; the HSC launched its S.C.R.E.A.M. (Student Center Recreation, Entertainment And More) initiative last spring, showing films such as “American Hustle,” “Ender’s Game” and “Lee Daniels’ The Butler”
