Bring the family to the Ellwood House this weekend for the annual holiday walk-through of the decorated mansion. The Holiday Open House will run on Friday, December 9th from 7-9pm and Saturday and Sunday the 8th and 9th, from 1-5pm. Purchase tickets in the Visitor Center ($10.00 adults/$3.00 youth – members are free) and proceed to the front door of the mansion. Over 12,000 square feet of beautifully decorated rooms are on display. Trained guides are stationed in each of the areas to share their knowledge about the house and the Ellwood family.
The Ellwood House is a National Register historic site located at 509 North First Street in DeKalb. Given to the DeKalb Park District in 1964 by Mrs. Erwin Perry Ellwood and her three children, the property is operated as a museum by the not-for-profit Ellwood House Association.
The story of the Ellwood House reflects the central role of Isaac Ellwood in the development of the barbed wire industry in America. The magnificent estate is also a testimony to three generations of the Ellwood family whose tastes shaped the evolution of the house and grounds. As you visit Ellwood House you will be aware of the comfort and quality of workmanship that wealth could provide. At the same time, you also sense the warmth and hospitality of a family home that was lived in for almost one hundred years. For more information please visit www.ellwoodhous
