Sycamore Park District, in cooperation with Sycamore elementary schools, invites children to name the community’s next park. Children in grades K through 6 who live in Sycamore and attend a Sycamore school are eligible to participate. Each child may only submit one entry. Deadline is November 8, 2013.
The name submitted should be drawn from Sycamore’s history, or have a direct tie/link/connection to Sycamore in some clearly explained way. The name cannot be of any living individual. written description in 150 words or less that answers these questions. Children who are not writing yet can have their parents write for them, but the parents must use the child’s exact words—not write it for them. a. What would you name the new park? b. Why do you feel the name is the best choice? c. How is the name directly tied/linked/connected to Sycamore’s past, present or future? and d. Why is the name appropriate to the location of the park?
The park is located in the Sycamore Creek Subdivision. Take Route 23 north to Plank Road. Go east on Plank Road through the first curve to North Grove Road. Turn right/east on North Grove Road and take it to Presidential Way. Turn right/south on Presidential Way, and continue past Republic Avenue and Potomac Avenue. Shortly after you pass Potomac Avenue you will see the NEW PARK on your right. The park will become part of the park district sometime this fall. It is approximately five acres in size. The selected name will be displayed on the new park entrance sign at a time yet to be determined.
A single name will be chosen from the entries by the Sycamore Park District’s Citizens’ Advisory Committee. First Place Prize is a $1,000 US Savings Bond and the use of the winning name for the new park. Second and Third Place Prizes are $500 US Savings Bonds. Click here for complete rules.
