NIU’s campus Health & Wellness Fair, sponsored by the NIU Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and supported by the NIU administration, celebrates its 25th anniversary Wednesday, March 30.
The fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Duke Ellington Ballroom of the Holmes Student Center.
Students, employees, retirees and community members are invited to the free event. Release time is provided for employees to attend.
Each spring’s fair brings together campus and surrounding community providers, as well as national organizations, that work within the health and wellness field or encompass components that fall under the seven dimensions of wellness.
These dimensions are important in creating and maintaining balance in life:
- emotional;
- environmental;
- financial;
- intellectual;
- occupational;
- physical;
- social; and
- spiritual.
Campus and area providers create awareness of available services by offering informational materials, performing assessments and screenings and offering products. A roster of providers is online under “Vendor List.”
- EAP is recognizing and thanking Heather Breurer Dental for participating for the past 25 years and for providing students and employees with not only information on dental care but dental samples every year.
The gift of giving is another way of keeping balance in life.
EAP has teamed up this year with Heartland Blood Centers to host a blood drive during the fair. It takes thousands of plasma donations each day to make needed therapies for people suffering from immune deficiencies, hemophilia, shock, trauma, burns and other bleeding and breathing disorders.
To make a donation the day of the fair, pre-schedule an appointment time online or call (800) 786-4483. Walk-ins also are welcome.
Blood donations (as well as hearing screenings) will take place in the Capitol Room; visit the tables on the west end of the ballroom for access.
