This is a great weekend to spend in southern DeKalb County in the quaint town of Sandwich. Jimmy and the Swingers will be playing Saturday evening at the Sandwich Opera House also starting at 8pm. Performing jazz, bluegrass, swing, folk and blues, vocal and instrumentals with fiddle, mandolin, guitars and acoustic bass. It’s been described as music that resonates in the spirit of Django with a cooler edge.
Jimmy and the Swingers are lead by guitarist, Jim Kanas who in 1971 at the age of 14 fully immersed himself in pursuing jazz guitar. Jimmy and the Swingers. He’s spent a lifetime studying with various influential musicians in an attempt to claim a unique identity and not be cast into some of the musical stereotypes and copy cats associated with jazz guitar. The result is an evening of music filled with a mix of ethnic and Americana influences.
