Student Involvement & Leadership Development (SILD) is in search of project sites and NIU volunteers (students, faculty and staff) for NIU Make a Difference Day.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, with volunteer check-in occurring from 9 to 9:30 a.m. and service projects happening from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Make a Difference Day sends NIU volunteers into the community to assist area residents with lawn clean-up and other small neighborhood projects to prepare for the winter months.
Volunteers will focus on on the Pleasant Street and Ellwood Historic neighborhoods, but will provide service to other areas.
This service opportunity allows NIU volunteers the ability to give back to the DeKalb community as well engage with local residents. (SILD offers a similar service event in the spring called NIU Cares Day.) Registration for individuals or teams of five or fewer continues through Friday, Sept. 25, or until all volunteer spaces fill.
DeKalb County residents and community organizations that would like their homes or facilities added as project sites must apply online. Project site registration will be accepted until Monday, Sept. 28. Because of logistical factors, including transportation and the event timeline, those sites in the Pleasant Street or Ellwood Historic neighborhoods will be given first priority.
