Compete in pitching, hitting and running skills at the official skills competition for Major League Baseball this Sunday, May 7th from 1:00-5:00pm at Katz Park (393 Dresser Road, DeKalb). This event for boys and girls ages 7-14 is free to participate in!
This grassroots program is designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to compete, free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball/softball skills.
Winners of each event in each age group (and the overall Pitch, Hit & Run boy and girl winners) will be able to advance to the regional competition (in Sugar Grove, IL on Saturday, May 20th) and possibly to the Team Competitions at Major League ballparks and the national event held during MLB All-Star Week in Miami, FL.
Boys and girls may participate in Pitch, Hit & Run and the Junior Home Run Derby. Younger kids are encouraged to come from 1-3pm and older kids from 3-5pm although participants may come at any time. Pitch, Hit & Run contest is for boys and girls in age groups: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14. Junior Home Run Derby is for boys and girls in two divisions 12U and 14U. The age group is determined by the child’s age on July 17, 2017.
Pre-registration is encouraged. Early registration forms are available at the Kishwaukee Family YMCA, the DeKalb Park District Sports & Rec Center, Clinton-Rosette Middle School, Huntley Middle School, DeKalb Elementary schools or by sending an email to slux1@niu.edu.
Parents will be asked to sign a waiver. Age verification will be required for the winners in each age group. Learn more at DeKalb Park District website.
