Meal Includes Performance by SHS Madrigals and Winter Coats for those in need
Feed’em Soup Community Project will be helping to spread holiday cheer to those in need in DeKalb County by providing a free holiday meal on Wednesday December 22nd from 5 to 7pm. Held at the First Lutheran Church of DeKalb, the menu will consist of beef roasts, cranberry sauce, roasted red potatoes, apple salad, roasted vegetables, a dinner roll and pumpkin pie. In addition to the meal, The Sycamore High School Madrigals will be performing for dinner guests beginning at 5:30pm.
In addition to the meal, The group also offers a food pantry of non-perishable food items during meal hours as well as a clothing closet stocked with winter coats and other clothing – all completely free to anyone in need. Both are run completely from donations by our community. Much needed items by guests at the meals include hats, gloves and scarves. People wishing to donate winter accessories to be supplied at the meals can drop them off at the First Lutheran Church on meal days between 3pm and 7pm.
“We’ve worked hard to make our meals more than just food.” Creative Director Derek Gibbs said. “We want to make them fun, social gatherings with great food, music, and people – and then on top of that we want to send everyone home with something to let them know we’re thinking of them even when we aren’t serving them a meal.” Being able to offer people non-perishable food and clothing to take home was never a part of the plan, but something that just kind of happened through dedicated volunteers and great support from the local community. “We are a very lucky organization to have such supportive volunteers and donors – we couldn’t do it without the whole community pitching in like they have been” Gibbs said.
The First Lutheran Church of DeKalb is located at 324 North Third Street in DeKalb. For more information on Feed ‘Em Soup Community Project, please visit www.FeedEmSoup.org
