The DeKalb County Trauma Informed Training Committee is working to make DeKalb County, Illinois a trauma informed community through incorporating knowledge about trauma in all aspects of service delivery and facilitating recovery and empowerment. That means a community that involves understanding, recognizing and responding to the effects of all types of trauma and to help survivors rebuild a sense of control and empowerment.
By screening “Paper Tigers” and hosting a panel discussion with experts on trauma informed care, lived experience, foster care, and education, the committee hopes to develop a comprehensive approach to trauma-informed care that increases awareness of the harmful effect of trauma in children and adults, develop effective preventative, treatment and recovery support services reflecting the needs of the community population, provide training and tools that help systems identify trauma and intervene early and inform public policy that supports these efforts (SAMSHA). Sponsored by: DeKalb County Community Mental Health Board.
