Former DeKalb Alderman, Michael Marquardt, is officially facing criminal charges for forgery and theft from his former employer, Kishwaukee Country Club.
As first reported by DeKalb County Online, after the City of DeKalb announced Marquardt’s resignation as 3rd Ward Alderman on December 6, 2018, it became known that he had been terminated by the country club, where he had worked as their Business Manager for several years. Police had been dispatched to the Kishwaukee Country Club on December 4th.
According to court records, as reported by the Daily Chronicle, DeKalb County prosecutors allege that Marquardt wrote seven checks from the country club to himself totaling $9,500 between December 2017 and November 2018, forging Board President Stephen Irving’s name in the process.
A warrant has been issued for Marquardt’s arrest and his bond has been set at $5000. If convicted, Marquardt could face up to five years in prison.

From my archives, I pulled out Michaelâs campaign brochure which refers to fiscal responsibility, and accountability.
Bout damn time one of the MANY corrupt government officials in DeKalb was charged with something.
Before anyone “assumes” anything, please pray for him & his family at this time! I know Mike & his wife, they go to my church…no one knows the truth. At least he had enough sense to turn himself in…
Was that before or after he resigned?
He’s been charged and is being held accountable in full public view and in the courts. It must be a very difficult time for his family, especially during this holiday season. My thoughts are with them.
Interesting choice of sympathy.
Mac Swan … it’s never easy on a family when a member of the family has a legal, emotional, or financial situation that effects the rest of the family.
Thank you Mac, I’m thinking of them too

I do feel sorry for his family, however, Michael made poor choices. Iâm sorry his family has to pay for that. There is never a good reason for theft and forgery
It is sad that the Daily Chronicle sent a statement to WBBM Radio in Chicago and it has been on regional radio. This is a local issue. Daily Chronicle continues to embarrass Dekalb County.
DeKalb County Online yes, that is sad. I’m sure they did this because he has served as an alderman. They wouldn’t bother with an “average Joe”. What an embarrassment to DeKalb & to Mike’s family. You can bet if someone on the Chronicle did something, they would cover it up ð¢
Maybe he was trying to take 9k and put it back into the missing city budget.

Over my 40 yrs in dek, never been an honest council
Rerun of “All the Queens Horses”?? Why don’t companies have dual-signed checks?? It’s so simple stupid. That’s just a start.
We have state officials doing the same thing with a different story and nobody cares.
Put his ass in jail.
Imagine that! Just another crook….
What a sad state of affairs DeKalb is in. Just about the time we think we have hit bottom another scandal arises. It’s like trying to peel an onion…there’s always another layer. I am sad for Mr. Marqardt’s family.
That’s exactly how I feel 🙁

Hmmm, a guy that would do that might accept a gift from a developer benefiting from tif money. Other council might make a profit from sale of real estate to tif beneficiaries….tell me again why AMG left with so many tax dollars in tow…
Matt Keys sure hope you are wrong. But, will the public ever know?
Matt Keys please follow the voting patterns of City Council and officials when dealing with $$$ projects. Recently former NIU President Baker took DeKalb officials on paid getaways.
DeKalb County Online much more to the stories. I feel like Rick Amato should be following the voting patterns more than me. Jerry did say the âcommuniversityâ relationship was better than ever.
Hopefully, the forensic audit will determine how much of the soft money TIF went to NIU Center for Government Studies, NIU Public Administration, etc., with a breakdown of services provided and linked to the related projects in the TIF districts. The city manager fund which can be used without city council approval should be scrutinized closely.
Mac Swan I have a feeling that this is just the beginning and may well be like pulling a thread on sweater; it just keeps unraveling. This audit is for TIF funds only. It would seem to me that all City funds/accounts should undergo an very thorough audit by an external accounting firm….perhaps also selected by the SA. The same old sloppy audit will not dispel the concerns and distrust that the taxpayers have expressed. All these accounting ‘errors’ that have been revealed in recent weeks appear to be from poor accounting practices that have occurred over an extended period of time. Why have the internal/city hall selected auditors not sited findings? Mayor Smith stated at his first City Council meeting…’This is a new day’. So far that has not been true. The dark cloud hanging over City Hall grows by the day.
It seems a path to full disclosure is opening.
Mac Swan and should have been lowered to $10,000.00 for the two previous CMs
