With the forecast of deep measurable snow, the DeKalb Fire Department is asking residents to help make fire hydrants accessible after each snowfall. Critical time is lost during an emergency when fire crews must locate and make usable a fire hydrant buried in snow. Life and Property could be saved, if the fire hydrant near you is visible and accessible.
Residents can perform a valuable public service by clearing the snow from around a fire
hydrant. Do not stack or pile snow on a fire hydrant when you are clearing your parking area, driveway, or sidewalk.
If you need assistance with cleaning snow from your hydrant, please contact the DeKalb Fire Department at (815)748-8460.

Lol,…clever photo to inspire people to clear snow from around fire hydrants.
So the city pays to have them painted why not pay to have them shoveled?
Paint lasts longer than snow
Oh so just let it melt problem solved!ðð
Every second counts in a fire. A clear hydrant could save your house from a total loss.
I’m going to let my house burn down because I’m too damn lazy to shovel around the hydrant? Really?? Here again…… you can’t fix stupid.
No but you could pay stupid and it would be cleared! Why pay taxes? This state gets enough money they can pay someone to do that job just like they pay the city worker’s to maintain those hydrants! #fact
The state doesn’t pay the city workers. It takes two minutes to shovel around they hydrant when you are shoveling your sidewalk. Then again, maybe the city should be shoveling their sidewalk and mowing their grass between the sidewalk and the road, too!
The fire hydrant is across the street from me. Usually it’s cleared from between one if the three of us neighbors. However, I can’t get the neighbor next to me to move his car off the street when they plow.
The DeKalb Police Department reminds residents to remove parked vehicles from snow routes. Vehicles parked on snow routes after two inches of snowfall may be ticketed or towed. For any non-emergency concerns or questions, please contact the Police Department at 815-748-8400.

But please! Take your dog away from the door at the apartment buildings! You have the dog, you must walk the dog. Be responsible for your dog. And be sure to clean their poor paws off when you come in. They can get sore and cracked from the ice and snow.
