On Saturday, August 25, 2012 eleven fire departments came together in Kirkland Illinois for classroom training and a joint transportation ethanol fire drill. Three cars were set on fire several times and each participating fire department was able to practice flowing foam. Departments that participated were Cortland, Genoa-Kingston, Kirkland, Sandwich, Boone 2, Hampshire, Leland, Montgomery and Countryside, Ogle-Lee, Sugar Grove and Monroe Township. OSF Lifeline helicopter also flew in for the drill. The drill took place behind the Kirkland Fire Station and lasted about two hours.
The training and drill was hosted by the Kirkland Community Fire Protection District, sponsored by the Burlington Santa Fe Railway and coordinated by the DeKalb County Local Emergency Planning Committee.
The next DeKalb County Local Emergency Planning Committee Regular Meeting will be held on Monday night, October 15, 2012, 6:30pm, at 1826 Barber Greene Road, DeKalb, Illinois. There will be a review of the Transportation Foam Drill/Exercise in Kirkland, Illinois on Saturday, August 25, 2012.
All meetings are scheduled to be held at the DeKalb County Highway Department, 1826 Barber Greene Road, DeKalb, Illinois 60115 in the conference room on the west end unless specified otherwise. They have four regular meetings at 6:30pm on the 3rd Monday of January, April, July and October of every year. All meetings are open to the public and the October meeting is designated specifically for receipt of public comments on the emergency plan. For more information contact Frank F.
