How can voters engage with their elected officials effectively? What role can the League of Women Voters play in advocating for important issues? Higher education funding, income taxes, the state budget, agricultural issues, governmental consolidation, and water pollution will be the featured topics of a six-person panel sponsored by the League of Women Voters of DeKalb County. The panel’s presentation, including questions from the audience that will help shape the topics discussed, will be at the Little Theater at Oak Crest Retirement Center on Thursday, July 7, beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Oak Crest Retirement Center is at 2944 Greenwood Acres Drive in DeKalb.
The six-person panel of experts all hail from the northern Illinois region and have extensive experience working with political issues in this area. The panel includes: Claire McIntyre, President of the League of Women Voters of Greater Rockford; Jean Pierce, member of the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County and the Education Study Committee for the League of Women Voters at the national level; Diane McNeilly and Norm Jenkins from the League of Women Voters of the Rochelle Area, Bonnie and John Cox from the League of Women Voters of Jo Daviess County; and Hilary Denk of the League of Women Voters of Downers Grove / Woodridge / Lisle and a member of the Board of Directors of the League of Women Voters of Illinois.
The event is open to all and with the variety of experts involved, the panel and discussion on these current and vitally significant topics should have something to interest any voters and anyone politically active.
