Executive Director Brian Reis of the Ellwood House Museum has announced the appointment of a new Operations Director. Ethan Peterman will join the executive team at the Ellwood House Museum as the Operations Manager. Peterman previously worked as the Summer Camp Coordinator and Content Manager at SciTech Hands-On Museum in Aurora (IL), as well as the Visitor Experience Coordinator/Educator for the Museums at Lisle Station Park. In these previous positions, he focused on various educational opportunities and providing meaningful cultural experiences to the general public.
He previously interned at the Ellwood House as the intern for the Jerry and Annette Johns Collections. This previous experience at Ellwood House gave Ethan the chance to learn more about the “back of the house” side of museums, cataloging and maintaining archives and collections.
Ethan serves as a Healthcare Sergeant in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. He graduated from Northern Illinois University in 2016 with a B.A. in History. He lives in DeKalb with strong ties to the community.
Brian Reis, executive director of the Ellwood House Museum, shared, “in his new role at the Ellwood House, Ethan will oversee the day-to-day operations of the public tour program, coordinate museum events, and manage membership and communications for the museum. He has great enthusiasm for the work of the museum and is eager to get our 2020 season started.”
The Ellwood House Museum reopens to the public on March 1, after being closed for the winter months. A reception and member event will be held on March 15, from 3 pm to 5 pm to introduce Ethan to museum members and the public. Reservations for the reception can be made at reservations@ellwoodhouse.org.
There will be a variety of new events during the coming year at the Ellwood House Museum including the return of the ever-popular ‘Music at the Mansion-Music Under The Stars’.
Ethan Peterman replaces Scott Tews, who left the museum in late 2019 for a new opportunity at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago (IL).
The Ellwood House is located at 509 North First Street in DeKalb. 815-756-4609. www.ellwoodhouse.org
