Meet the Candidates:
Earl Gable
Candidate for First Ward Alderman
Sycamore City Council
Background info:
Graduated class of 1986
Am 42 years old – lived in Sycamore for the majority of life
Business owner
Father of 4
Why should voters elect me?
My primary concern is that the people of Sycamore have a voice. A representative is a single voice for the people that he represents. It is a representative’s responsibility to listen to the needs and concerns of the people represented and in turn, it is up to that representative to gather information and provide feedback. It is a representative’s duty to set his/her personal agenda aside and do the hard work needed to represent his constituents and not just “go along with city hall”. I feel my two primary strongest characteristics are the willingness to represent the people and not city hall and to hold my fellow representatives accountable for their decisions. I am not influenced by any party nor any individual. Those that I would represent come first for the betterment of Sycamore.

Lynn, Yes, it is me. If you don’t mind me saying, my responses in the paper are from an “upset taxpayer and citizen” as to how this country is run. While my opinion is not always right, neither are those that oppose my thinking. I enjoy the heated discussions because then you can find where people stand. I’ve been compared to everything from a nazi to even a pedophile from some individuals and that is their right. However, an elected official needs to insure that their own beliefs can help focus them, but it is the peoples’ wishes that come first. A good representative needs to insure that they have the right information and feedback….and in turn, they need to voice their concerns regularly. Many people, unfortunately, feel that once a representative is elected, that they quit listening. I believe that once a representative is elected, there are times the people just quit talking. Mr. Neubauer represented first ward extremely well….I would hope that the next alderman to take his place can do as good of a job as he did.
Is this the same Earl Gable who “listens” so well to others in the newspaper comments sections?

I believe some one on the City council with passion in what they believe in is a good thing. Right now we have very little if any disagreement on the issues brought to the City Council. It is usualy 7 to 1, or 8 to 0 on the votes. I hope Earl will stand up to the wastefull spending and ask the tough questions that need to be answered.
