Kishwaukee Fest of DeKalb County “Parade of Parades” returns this Friday, July 29 in downtown DeKalb, Illinois. This torch light parade starts at 6:00 PM with a cruise cavalcade of classic and muscle cars that will cruise the parade route and park downtown with an opportunity to park and showcase the cars before the main parade arrives at the reviewing area.
This year’s Parade Route goes North on 7th Street from Founders Elementary School to Lincoln Hwy, then West on Lincoln Hwy. to 2nd St. and will end on Locust Street.
The event is branded as the “Parade of Parades” and will feature a unique collection of music units, youth groups, several Illinois Pageant Queens, local business and organization float entries, Shrine entertainment, military groups, horse units and additional speciality groups.
One of the highpoints of the event is the “Parade of Queens” to honor the various pageant winners from the Miss Illinois Pageant, regional winners and local festival Queens. This year parade will also feature the ‘first’ Christmas Parade of the season, complete with Santa and elves. Local stores will be offering “Christmas in July” sales and appear in the parade. The theme of the 2016 Parade is “Salute to Veterans”. This parade offers the young people candy as a reward for the best applause for each unit.
At the conclusion of the parade some of the musical units will park on the side streets and offer an olde fashion street dance. Local restaurants and eating establishments will remain open to compliment this event.
The “Parade of Parades” has been noted as one of the premiere late summer ‘hometown’ parades. The Festival Director is DeKalb (IL) business man Michael Embrey. The parade is still accepting applications to appear. For more information please call 815-756-1263.
