The Department of Psychology will host an informational and Q&A session, “Thinking about a Mental Health Profession, Answering frequently held Questions.” The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11.
The informational session can be accessed via Zoom and is open to all undergraduate students who are interested or considering future careers in mental health. Dr. Holly Orcutt, NIU professor and licensed psychologist will host the event. Dr. Orcutt will discuss various careers in mental health and obtaining an undergraduate degree in psychology, according to the event page.
Orcutt, who has been teaching undergraduate majors for over 20 years, has found that students who are interested in entering the mental health field can find themselves overwhelmed by different pathways.
“I am passionate about helping to map out the landscape for students so they can weigh their options, as well as point out some important pitfalls, particularly around student debt.” Dr. Orcutt said.
