DeKalb Township Honored at Township Officals of Illinois Conference

DeKalb Township received six awards at the annual Township Officials of Illinois conference in Springfield this week. Accepting the awards for the Township, Supervisor Eric Johnson remarked that the recognition reflects the quality programs and services offered throughout the community and continued efforts to better the communication between the Township and its residents.

DeKalb Township won five awards in the Mighty Message competition for Best Township Website (www.dekalbtownship.org), Other Publications (DeKalb Township Informational Flyer), Best Township Program (Committee on Youth), Best Use of Social Media (Facebook: Supervisor Eric Johnson), and Best Photo of a Township Event (2012 Annual Town Meeting) in the category of Townships with a population of 25,000 – 50,000.

On April 11, 2012 the Township Board established the DeKalb Township Committee on Youth. The purpose of the DeKalb Township Committee on Youth is to advise the Township Board on the provision of programs and services to combat and prevent juvenile delinquency and provide for the well-being of underserved and underprivileged youth and their families who reside in DeKalb Township through partnerships, or the creation or funding of youth activities.

“We are constantly striving to better ourselves and our services for our residents to have the best overall experience,” said Johnson. “Continuously updating our communication and other programs based on resident feedback have led us to these successes.”

Additionally, DeKalb Township Supervisor Eric Johnson was awarded the 2014 Township Friend of Youth Award by the Association of Illinois Township Committees on Youth.

The Association of Illinois Township Committees on Youth (AITCOY) is a statewide resource for community-based human service agencies with the purpose to promote improved services for youth and families. Its overall mission is to enhance the quality of life for youth and families in Townships throughout Illinois.

The Township Officials of Illinois Educational Conference occurs annually in Springfield where over 800 Township officials and staff gather to attend seminars and trainings.
