The DeKalb Soldiers and Sailors Memorial clock is celebrating its centennial year in 2021, just as DeKalb Rotary Club is celebrating its centennial year. DeKalb Rotary has initiated a project to return the clock to working order.
The clock has not been functional for many years. DeKalb Rotary Club is working to bring the workings of the clock to modern specifications without changing the exterior. We will be conducting fundraising activities throughout 2021. With the help of the community, the DeKalb Rotary hopes to have this landmark keeping accurate time once again.
On Memorial Day (May 31) at 9:00 AM, the Rotary Centennial Clock Chair Mike Coghlan will make a presentation celebrating the 100th year of the Clock, the 100th year of the DeKalb Rotary, and the 100th year of the DeKalb American Legion. There will also be a full Memorial Day presentation complete with a military service by the DeKalb American Legion Ceremonial Honor Guard and the playing of TAPS to honor all veterans that are no longer with us.
