DeKalb Police Warn of Ruse Burglaries

DeKalb Police took a report of a citizen on the south side of town who had a tree service come to their home stating they were contracted by the City of DeKalb to trim trees. The worker identified himself as being with ABC Tree Service. The worker asked the homeowners to exit their home so they could show them the trees that needed trimming. He walked the homeowners into the backyard while talking on a radio with an unknown person. When the homeowners returned to the house, they found they had items stolen. A witness saw two male/whites and one male/black enter the home, via the front door, while the homeowners were in the backyard.

NOTE: The City of DeKalb does NOT have anyone contracted to trim trees at this time.

Please be aware of these types of ruse burglaries. Do not allow anyone inside your home soliciting at your door. Do not exit your home at the request of a solicitor. If you question the validity of the solicitor or company, do not hesitate to contact the DeKalb Police Department. These types of burglaries vary in nature and suspects often use different ruses in an effort to divert your attention.
