The DeKalb Police Department, in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Transportation and other state authorities, will be increasing efforts to crack down on drunk and impaired driving throughout the Christmas season, according to a Thursday news release.
From Friday to Jan. 4, DeKalb Police will be increasing the number of patrols and traffic stops they make, in an effort to combat and deter impaired driving, according to the news release.
A similar campaign on Halloween saw DeKalb Police issued 31 traffic citations and make two arrests. Their campaign efforts over Thanksgiving yielded similar numbers of arrests and citations, according to the news release.
“During this season of caring, let’s remember to extend our goodwill to fellow motorists,” said DeKalb Police Commander Jason Leverton. “The best way we can do that is by making a commitment to drive sober and thereby help ensure that we all make it to our destinations safely.”
