The DeKalb Police Targeted Response Unit (TRU), with the assistance of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, has been proactively investigating narcotics trafficking in our city. Many of the violent crimes committed in 2016 were directly related to or associated with illicit drug sales. These investigations led TRU in the execution of four search warrants since February 22nd, 2017, summarized as follows.
On February 22nd, 2017, a search warrant was executed in the 100 block of Pooler Ave. Police located and seized psilocybin mushrooms, cannabis and United States Currency all related to the possession and distribution of cannabis and controlled substances.
- Lee Ann Kennedy was charged with Unlawful Possession of Cannabis with the Intent to Deliver and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.
- Domanic Kennedy was charged with Unlawful Possession of Cannabis with the Intent to Deliver.
On February 24th, 2017, TRU, with the assistance of the DeKalb County Special Operations Team, executed a search warrant at an apartment in the 800 block of North Annie Glidden Road. Police located and seized ecstasy pills, cannabis and United States Currency all related to the possession and distribution of cannabis and controlled substances. A secondary search of one offender’s vehicle resulted in the recovery of a loaded handgun.
- Shantrice Lewis was arrested for an outstanding warrant and charged with Unlawful Possession of Cannabis with the Intent to Deliver.
- Christopher Spencer-McLaren was charged with Armed Habitual Criminal, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon and other related weapons offenses, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis with the Intent to Deliver.
On March 2nd, 2017, TRU executed a search warrant in the 800 block of Grove Street. Police located and seized cannabis and two stolen firearms. The ensuing investigation determined that a total of three firearms were previously stolen from a residence in Dekalb, the third stolen firearm was recovered at another DeKalb address pursuant to this investigation.
- Andrew Weems was charged with Unlawful Possession of Stolen Firearms.
- Christian Corson was charged with Felony Theft, Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm without a FOID.
On March 10th, 2017, TRU executed a search warrant in the 700 block of South 3rd Street where Police located and seized cannabis, cannabis edibles, cannabis oil, Xanax and Adderall.
- Francisco Fisher was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis with the Intent to Deliver.
The DeKalb Police Department will continue to engage in proactive and collaborative investigations to address narcotics trafficking and other crimes in order to make our community a safer place. We encourage our residents to contact the police department if they see suspicious or illegal activities occurring in their neighborhoods. Doing this when the incident is occurring provides a greater opportunity for the police to apprehend offenders or to address a quality of life concern.
