The DeKalb Park District is hosting a Community Day at Prairie Park this Saturday, March 24th beginning at noon. Participants will meet at Disc Golf Course (corner of Glidden and Clifford) and tackle removal of invasive woody plants from 9:00-11:00am. They plan to work along the section of new trail between the bridge and the railroad bridge.
Participants are encouraged to wear boots, gloves, and weather appropriate clothes. You may also bring loppers to assist removal (optional).
At the workday event in the fall they were able to remove a lot of invasive buckthorn and honeysuckle and the impact it has had on that section of trail has been remarkable. Before spring leaf-out they hope to be able to continue this work and will be able to make a big difference for the users of this beautiful section of trail for this spring and summer!
