DeKalb, IL: The DeKalb American Legion is proud to announce the Class of 23 DeKalb Hometown Hero banners are now on display in the downtown area. The entire collection of Hometown banners are located in the DeKalb downtown area, on Lincoln Highway from 1st Street to 7th Street, 2nd Street north, 3rd Street north and on Locust Street, ‘Honorary Veteran’s Way’.
“We are excited to announce eight new Hometown Hero banners are up and available to be viewed by everyone,” commented Sarah Massier Newby, new co-chair of the DeKalb Hometown Hero banner program. Sarah is the President of the American Legion Auxiliary.
The “DeKalb Hometown Hero” class of 2023 Include:
Jerry B Evans – US Army
Jackson H Mertz – US Marine Corps
Brandon B Makthepharaks – US Marine Corps
David Donnelly – US Army
Donald J Mullis – US Army
William R Wyman – US Army

“These new eight banners join 68 others to show honor and respect to our local military veterans and families,” said Michael Embrey (USAF), advisor to the Hometown Hero banner program. “One of the new banners honors David Donnelly, US Army, who died from his wounds while serving in Viet Nam.”
The American Legion would like to thank the City of DeKalb for their continued support of this program to honor our hometown veteran heros.
