The various cities within DeKalb County have set suggested days, times, and conditions for the Halloween ‘Trick or Treat’ activities.
DeKalb: On Monday night the DeKalb City Council reviewed with council members ‘what would or should be recommended’. Because Halloween is on a Saturday, Mayor Smith suggested changing the times from 4 to 7 PM to 3 to 6 PM. City Manager Bill Nicklas commented that the City has limited powers on what they can or cannot do, but must follow the guidelines from the CDC, and State and County Health Departments. “Homeowners can continue to welcome ‘Trick or Treaters’ but be aware of social distancing and distributing of candy or simply turn off the welcome light”, commended Mayor Smith before the meeting. “And families should use good judgment in protecting their children if they elect to go ‘Trick or Treating’.” Mayor Smith also hopes that the various cities in the county can agree on times and what is offered on Halloween.
Sycamore: The City Manager of Sycamore has stated that the City will take a wait and see approach for the events on Halloween.
