The Fourth of July is a great time in DeKalb County, when communities come together for parades, fireworks and festivals to celebrate the beginning of our nation.
Fourth of July activities aren’t just on one day, however. In DeKalb County this year, they begin as early as June 28 and run through at least July 7th. Here is a rundown of some of the most popular Independence Day events across the county. (For more information on each event, click on event name/link.)
Celebration Chorale Patriotic Concert – Friday, June 28; Saturday, June 29; and Sunday, June 30
The Chorale is thrilled to continue what has become a DeKalb tradition, as they celebrate our nation’s Independence Day. This musical combines religious favorites and patriotic standards that celebrate America.
The audience will once again be invited to join the Chorale in “Salute to the Armed Forces” as veterans and current service people stand to be recognized as their service hymn is sung. The Chorale will be joined on Friday night only by Sailor Jerri.
Hinckley Fireworks Fest & Car Show – Saturday, June 29
It’s a day full of family fun, food, music & the fireworks! Don’t miss their 3rd annual Car & Truck Show, then stroll over to the craft & business vendors available from 4-8 p.m. There will be kids activities, including bounce houses and pony rides. Food Trucks will also be available from 4-9 p.m.
Whiskey Romance Band will be on stage at 7:00 p.m. and will play through the incredible fireworks show at dusk!
Kirkland Lions Club 71st Annual 4th of July Celebration – Wednesday, July 3 – Saturday, July 6
Four-day festival of live music and children’s entertainment, food, vendors, flea market, carnival rides, fun run, bags tournament, car show, tractor show, and more!
Parade on Thursday, July 4 and Fireworks (“largest in Northern Illinois”) on Saturday, July 6.
Red White & Boom 5K – Leland – Wednesday, July 3
Leland Community In Action is hosting their 5th Annual CIA5K Red White & Boom. This race will start at 8 pm and be a GLOW RUN! Grab your tennis shoes and lights and join them for some fun!
Leland Steak Dinner – Wednesday, July 3
The Leland Town & Country Association will host their Annual Steak Fry to be held at the Leland Lions Club Pavilion, July 3rd from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The Leland Town and Country Association is pleased to invite you to participate in this Annual Fundraiser. Starting at 4:00 p.m. with Cruise Night & DJ GoodBoy, Dinner at 5:00 p.m. includes Steak, Corn on the Cob, Baked Potato, Dessert, Beverage and great service, all for $20.00 per person.
DeKalb Park District Independence Day 5K Run/Walk – Thursday, July 4, 8:30 a.m.
Begin your 4th of July celebration with family and friends at the Independence Day 5K Run/Walk. Participants are encouraged to dress with American spirit (red,white,blue).
The Independence Day 5K Run will be held on a USATF certified course with chip timing. Walkers are also allowed and encouraged! This is a family friendly event. However, strollers, bikes and dogs are not allowed for safety purposes.

DeKalb Park District 4th of July Celebration – Thursday, July 4, 3:00 p.m.
Bring chairs, blankets, games, and appetites for an afternoon and evening with family and friends. Food booths from many favorite local caterers, grills, and vendors will be on site in the early afternoon hours. The DeKalb Municipal Band will perform in the bandshell before and during the fireworks. Fireworks at dusk are co-sponsored by the DeKalb Park District and City of DeKalb.

Shabbona Fourth of July Festival & Parade – Thursday, July 4
“A Walk Through the Decades – Past, Present, and Future.”
Events include Pancake Breakfast, Festival (“the very best of small town America”), Parade, Porkchop Dinner and Fireworks over Shabbona Lake.
Sycamore Speedway Firecracker 34 Plus Large Firework Display – Saturday, July 6
Super Late Models, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks Racing Plus Dirt Late Models. General Admission Gates open at 5 p.m. Qualifying at 6:30 p.m. with races to follow. Fireworks to be lit at dark around 9:00 p.m. Ticket Pricing: General Admission Ticket Prices: $15 for Adults, $5 for Kids ages 5-11, 4 & under are FREE.
Sandwich Freedom Days – Saturday, July 6 – Sunday, July 7
Saturday, July 6: Car & Bike Show and Parade Downtown; Fireworks at Fairgrounds.
