As festival season continues, DeKalb County prepares for another event-full weekend. Among the events on the schedule, none are bigger than the Sandwich Fair, which begins on Wednesday and continues through the weekend.
Other community events slotted for this weekend’s calendar include Volksfest in Genoa, Fireworks and Fun in Sycamore, Kite Fest in DeKalb, the Tails Mutt Strutt 5K Run/Walk in DeKalb, and the NIU Football Home Opener against Utah at Huskie Stadium.
The DeKalb County Fair runs from Wednesday, September 5 – Sunday, September 9. The Fair provides agriculture exhibits and competitions, commercial vendors, food, entertainment, carnival rides, and games for all ages. Entertainment includes horse shows, harness racing, tractor pulls, demolition derby and musical acts. This year’s headliners are country star, Justin Moore, and contemporary Christian band, Carrollton.
The three-day event takes place at Carroll Memorial Park along the Kishwaukee River in Genoa. Friday night features “Rockin’ the Kish” with The Relics. Saturday morning is the Volksmarch 6K/10K Fun & Fitness Walk, with the Craft Beer & Wine Festival taking place in the afternoon and early evening. Sunday begins with the PTO Fun Fair and concludes with the Great Genoa Duck Race.
Bring the family out and have a blast in the park! FREE. Food and drinks available to purchase. Don’t forget a chair or blanket. Event takes place at the Sycamore Park District Sports Complex at 435 Airport Road.

From your favorite 80s classics to the best new music, stop in for a show and you’ll see that Hi Fi has really got it covered with a total concert experience from start to finish.
8 p.m. Fireworks
The DeKalb Kite Festival is a full day of family fun. You can bring your own kite or make one there. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. It will take place Sunday, September 9th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.at the corner of Lucinda and Kishwaukee Drive in DeKalb.

Join Tails for their annual dog-friendly race celebrating man’s best friend while raising funds for the pets in their care. Run (or walk) for the rescues! Event takes place at Hopkins Park in DeKalb beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The Huskies kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 8th against Utah at Huskie Stadium in DeKalb. The Utes will be the first PAC-12 team to ever play at Huskie Stadium.
