When you reach 25 years of giving money to select non-profits and community groups you throw a party.
The DeKalb County Community Foundation is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a number of exciting activities to celebrate, thank, and give back to the DeKalb County communities. According to Foundation President, Frank Roberts, this foundation has made a major impact on the quality of life in DeKalb County. Although Mr. Frank Roberts is coming to the end of his term as the Board President, he is extremely proud of the work of the foundation.
On Thursday evening, October 18, 2018, the DeKalb County Community Foundation hosted a 25th Anniversary party in conjunction with the DeKalb and Sycamore Chambers of Commerce. This reception gave visitors a chance to tour and see the remodeled Sycamore Train Depot. Daniel P. Templin gave a presentation with a video produced by OC Image Works that showcased the work and vision of the foundation, both current and future. The audience of about 150 was a who’s who of DeKalb County leaders, business owners and board members.
Founders Charlie and Mary Roberts’ vision to create the Foundation as a catalyst to grow philanthropy in DeKalb County has surpassed many expectations—distributing over $25 million in grants and managing over $50 million in local charitable assets—all from their lead gift of $3.6 million.
The Board of Directors of the Foundation is selected from representatives throughout the county. Directors serve a term of three years and may be renewed for an additional six years. The Board annually elects a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. The Board sets policy, formulates strategic planning, and determines priorities in grant-making. Because of the willingness of these able, effective individuals who donate their time and talents to the ultimate betterment of DeKalb County, the Foundation continues to grow to enhance the quality of life for its citizens.
As part of the ‘Give’ program of the 25th Anniversary celebration activities, Celebration Grants are specific to each community in DeKalb County. Over the next few months, the Community Foundation will be giving away one $2,500 grant per community to benefit an eligible nonprofit or community organization that is located in each community. The Foundation will implement this during a signature event associated with each community—one that draws many local attendees. The Foundation will participate in this signature event by way of a booth or table and take nominations from attendees. At the end of each event, a drawing will be held. The selected organization will receive a $2,500 Celebration Grant from the Community Foundation.
