Dame’s rocket bears a lovely purple flower this time of year which can be seen in many of our parks. Dame’s rocket is also an invasive species, originally from Europe, which propagates aggressively to the detriment of native species, degrading biodiversity in our parks. Please join us on Saturday, June 4th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM for a work day at Prairie Park removing dame’s rocket. We will focus on the same area of the park as we did in last month’s garlic mustard pull, spreading from there if possible. We’ll teach you to identify the plant and to differentiate it from similar species. We’ll meet at 9:00 AM at the entrance to Prairie Park located on the north side of Clifford Drive between Ellwood Ave and Glidden Ave. Please wear long pants and closed toe shoes. Any and all help is welcome so there is no obligation to stay the entire time. If you are not able to start at 9:00, just follow the paved path to beyond the bridge and look for people picking posies. Hope to see you there.
