There are many amazing stories in Sycamore’s history connected to famous people and important events. However, sometimes ordinary daily life can be equally entertaining and significant. Ken Mundy has spent many, many hours reviewing Sycamore’s city council minutes. Starting in 2008, in preparation for the City’s Sesquicentennial, he began studying the historic ledgers containing the minutes. Quickly, this project grew. Before he finished his term as mayor, he completed his notes of the City Council minutes that covered 1858 – 2016. During the November 2 Sycamore History Museum Brown Bag lunch, Mundy will explore Sycamore during 1950-1969.
“We are very excited to have the Mayor share is research as part of the Brown Bag lunch series. His talk will provide a great insight to the daily life in our community during this time period,” explained Michelle Donahoe, Sycamore History Museum’s Executive Director. When asked to share an interesting story Mundy selected a quote from the April 28, 1952 City Council meeting, “Sycamore High School Principal Phil Winebrenner introduced students elected at school to City Council during Girls and Boys Week at the City Council Meeting of April 28, 1952.”
The Brown Bag lunches take place on the first Thursday of the month. During the colder months, the program is held at the DeKalb County Community Foundation’s Freight Room, 475 DeKalb Ave. The talk begins at 12:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, donations are welcome. Bring your lunch and SHM provides coffee and cookies. For more information, call 815-895-5762 or visit sycamorehistory.org.
