After years of debate and discussion in the public and in “two-by-two” lobbying sessions with council members the City of DeKalb passed an ordinance requiring residential rental property registration and licensing. The sweeping regulations included a crime free housing unit within the police department that provides landlords with tools to help in evicting tenants involved in illegal activity and fines for those who ignored tenants that repeated similar incidents.
The program generated 2013 results that appear to be favored by local residents. Or at least by local DeKalb County Online readers of DeKalb Police arrest 13 in Criminal Trespass Check at University Village.
On December 4th 2013, the DeKalb Police conducted a Criminal Trespass Check at the University Village Apartment Complex, which is located at 722 N. Annie Glidden Road. The DeKalb Police Department was assisted by Northern Illinois University Police. The following people were arrested for the charge of Criminal Trespass to Real Property. All individuals have been previously banned from the property.
More than 500 people shared the press release on Facebook. Concerns and questions of methodology were expressed but the super-majority of the comments were favorable.
