A media story from Northern Illinois University reported seven additional students with the COVID-19 virus. This brings the total number of cases to 45 (42 students and 3 staff) from the start of the school year. According to the NIU COVID-19 website, four people have recovered from the virus.
NIU will start surveillance testing this week and will test 60 students each day, upping the number to 125 next week. Off-campus students living in apartments and in Greek housing are not required to get tested according to the university.
While many students are studying from home, there are still large groups that gather on the campus, including several sports teams and the NIU Marching Band.
