DeKalb Corn Fest is going to be back in Downtown DeKalb this Labor Day Weekend! Come and enjoy the sound stage, carnival, food, beer garden, Auto Fest, Bus Tours, Corn Boil and so much more! Corn Fest is one of the last remaining free music festivals among Illinois music festivals and summer festivals in Illinois. Beginning its 36th year of the festival, Corn Fest will be returning to its original location in downtown DeKalb on Lincoln Hwy. between 1st and 4th St. Probably the biggest change from when Corn Fest was downtown before is that the carnival will be located behind Locust St. in the city and Frontier parking lots in between 2nd and 3rd St..
Corn Fest Sound Stage opens up on Friday at 5:30pm with The Relics and Hi-Infidelity headlines late on Saturday. Both pictures with this article were taken the last time Corn Fest was downtown. Full Sound Stage schedule for this year is at the Read More link. All shows on the main stage are free to the public and there is a $5 admission fee into the Sound Stage (beer garden) area. There will be a Community Stage at the corner of Lincoln Hwy. and First Street that features local area dance troops, theater groups and music groups such as Suzuki and high school and small bands.
Free steamed sweet corn is available on Saturday during the Corn Boil at the festival from 11am until 2pm (or when corn runs out). Autofest runs from 8:00 am to 3:30pm on Saturday, rain or shine. The Autofest will be at the Old Mike Mooney Car Dealership on the corner of 4th St. and Locust St.. Free 1 hr. bus tours of DeKalb will be offered by historian Steve Bigolin in 2 hour intervals on Saturday at 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm. Steve will tantalize you with interesting tidbits from DeKalb’s historic past. Pick up a bus for the tour at the Corner of Grove and 4th St. across the street from the Senior Center. First come, first served.
Parking is available throughout the downtown area. There is a parking lot that will be free and open to the public at the corner of 4th and Grove St. There is also a paid parking lot at the corner of Locust and 4th St. Donations will be appreciated. This benefits the Kiwanis Club of DeKalb. Trans VAC will be offering free door to door pick up for seniors and people with disabilities [more details here]
