It’s Corn Fest weekend in DeKalb! This festival features a carnival complete with carnival rides and games, food booths, live music, car show, Air Fest, kiddie korner with large inflatables, family entertainment and much more. Friday night is carnival wristband nights for the kids with unlimited rides from 6-10pm. New this year to the festival is carnival rides and games by North American Midway Entertainment (NAME). NAME states on their website that they are ‘the world’s largest traveling outdoor amusement park’.
Free steamed sweet corn will be available at the Chuck Siebrasse Corn Boil on Saturday during the festival from 11am until 2pm (or when corn runs out). The community stage will be back featuring local area dance troops, theater groups and music groups such as Suzuki and high school and small bands. New this year is Kid Fest which features activities just for the kids on Friday from 5-7:30pm and Saturday from 6-7:30pm. Air Fest will go on throughout the weekend and includes a static air display, B-25 Bomber rides, Biplane and Helicopter rides. Festival areas feature booths, food and a beer garden.
There will be a Vintage Auto Show, ‘Autofest’ as a part of DeKalb Corn Fest. Autofest runs on Saturday, August 27, from 8:00 am to 3:30pm, rain or shine. Entry fee is $10.00 per car, spectators are free. There will be participant door prizes, trivia questions, 50/50 drawing. dash plaques & goody bags to the first 100 cars. Autofest is at DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport just west of the Carnival.
Free 1 hr. bus tours of DeKalb will be offered by historian Steve Bigolin in 2 hour intervals on Saturday and Sunday. Steve will tantalize you with interesting tidbits from DeKalb’s historic past. Tours depart from shuttle bus area at festival. First come, first served. Tours will run from 10am – 12pm & 2pm – 4pm.
There will be a one time fee of $5.00 per vehicle for a weekend parking pass which will be valid for Saturday and Sunday of the festival. On Friday the parking is free. There will be a free Shuttle Bus to/from Corn Fest. Bus to begin at west side (bus turnaround) of Holmes Student Center, stop at corner of 2nd and Lincoln (Eduardo’s), left onto 7th and then a right onto Pleasant. Passenger stop at 11th and Pleasant (stop sign); continuing out to fest and stopping at the shuttle bus drop off at Corn Fest.
