Recently the DeKalb Police Department has received several complaints regarding Power Companies telephoning customers. During the call, the power supplier will attempt to lure and intimidate the customer to switch Power Suppliers. Some of these businesses may be legitimate. However, if they leave a message and you return their call it may lead to future aggressive calls. It is recommended that you do not call these companies back regarding your power bills.
In an effort to prevent future solicitation you can register on the “National do Not Call List” and block solicitors from telephoning you. You can register your phone number at https://www.donotcall.gov/. This site is safe and is run by the Federal Trade Commission. In addition to registering your phone number, you can also make a complaint about aggressive calls. Most telemarketers should not call your phone number once it has been registered for 31 days.
If you have a complaint or feel you were the victim of a scam, contact the DeKalb Police Department at 815-748-8400.

The same people are going door to door that have their license to solicit. It’s the same thing where they demand to see a copy of your electric bill.

The do not call list is useless.

All these phone scams are exactly why I never answer the phone from unknown numbers. If it’s important, they’ll leave a voicemail in my opinion.
