The DeKalb County Engineer has announced Coltonville Road between West Stonehenge Drive and North First Street has been opened to traffic upon bridge replacement over the South Branch of the Kishwaukee River. Some landscaping will continue to take place under traffic. Please drive safely and watch for workers. The public’s understanding and patience throughout this road closure has been appreciated.
Coltonville Road was closed on August 17, 2015 after an unusually long delay in getting steel beams for the bridge. Although the entire project would not be complete, the road was anticipated to be open to traffic by the end of 2015. However, above average rain and snow events caused the Kishwaukee River to flood and remain high which delayed the scheduled work. Freezing temperatures hindered the ability for concrete work during the winter and the contractor resumed work in March, 2016. Due to rain for nearly half of the days in April and May, earthwork operations were slowed until June. The finished bridge is 2 1/3 times larger than the old bridge and approximately 3 feet higher.
Any questions or concerns can be addressed to the County Engineer at 1826 Barber Greene Road, DeKalb, IL 60115 or by calling 815-756- 9513.

Amazing how quickly that went for them once there was a firm deadline. Maybe there should have been one from the start of the project!

There always was a deadline, no construction job doesn’t have one.
I suppose they should have paved concrete in the rain, assembled the bridge underwater as the Kish was flooded, and poured concrete in February when it was 5 degrees outside. Would you be upset if it fell apart in a month? Is the Kish flooding the responsibility of the contractor?
You tell me….

Every road construction job in sycamore that I have experienced in the four years I’ve lived here takes an absurdly long time. The bridge repair on 64 going out of town took almost a year and a half, the work on Bethany and peace also took almost that long. I am a farmer and can appreciate weather issues–but I do not believe all three of these examples can be blamed on bad weather.

Rick Ahlbach There weren’t that many weather related delays, It was just an incompetent contractor.Nothing should have been started until all materials were secured.

You can all thank Curran for paving it crazy quick

Tyler Anderson took them long enough!

Glad you got it done before the state shuts down all the construction jobs going on all over because they can’t pass a budget.

Kimberly Smith

Took them long enough

About dam time somebody should be fined out their ass for that taking so long

Because they didn’t pour concrete in the rain, because the concrete would crumble and turn green because it was freezing, or because they didn’t try to assemble a bridge under water when the Kish flooded….

Rick Ahlbach Quit trying to blame the delays on the weather. The incompetent contractor started the project and after he had it torn apart he found out he couldn’t get all the materials he needed. This job was suppose to be completed before Christmas and the weather was very mild and DRY up to that point.

Now if only people would not speed down Coltonville. There are people who live on this road and walk in the area. It would be nice if motorists would obey the limits on Coltonville. Pets also are being walked.
