Mayor John Rey has announced that applications for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program are now available to agencies for the 2016 Program Year. CDBG funding is federal community development assistance dollars provided annually to the City by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Applications can be picked up in the Community Development Department, 200 S. Fourth St., DeKalb, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., or may be downloaded online.
Organizations interested in submitting proposals for CDBG funding must first submit a “Letter of Intent” to the Community Development Department by 4 p.m. on February 8, 2016. Local CDBG funded programs administered by the Community Development Department are divided into two categories: physical improvements and social services. Organizations applying for a CDBG funds must serve city residents whose household income is less than 80% of the area median income.
Projects must be designed to increase public services that promote independent living and self- sufficiency for homeless individuals, families, the elderly and people with disabilities. All projects are required to meet at least one Consolidated Plan Objective and one HUD national objective. A list of the Consolidated Plan objectives and HUD national objectives are included in the attached materials.
