Artigras and DeKalb Dance Dimensions are proud to present a Variety Show on Friday, May 4th from 8pm-10pm at the historic Egyptian Theatre in Downtown DeKalb.
Come experience a thematic event designed to celebrate the local art community and feature a wide array of talents across various artistic disciplines. Guests will be immersed in multidisciplinary art experiences from their initial entry into the theater. The ARTigras show will be kicked off with an opening reception in the Egyptian lobby at 6:30 pm featuring roaming performers, live visual and musical artists from Kishwaukee College, and art on display from student artists at DeKalb High School. The Variety Show will present an array of 16 live performances in theater, dance, and music.
Event Directors, Dance Dimensions owner Miranda Cordes and Co-Producer Tamara Newquist have woven varied art disciplines into the scene for an authentic, artsy feel. Integrated into the event will be costumed characters, painting and pottery demonstrations and live music, transforming the Egyptian Theater into a Bourbon Street appearance.
Opening the show is Dance Dimensions Performing Troupe dancing, “Swingin’ With The Blues” choreographed by Tamara Newquist. The piece tells a story of a social scene from the jazz era performed by professional dance artists from Dance Dimensions Adult along with trained students who combine disciplines in jazz, ballet, and contemporary styles to deliver a unique and entertaining performance. The Variety Show will go on to entertain the audience with 16 acts by local performers. The culmination of the show will be a collage piece featuring Michael Jackson music choreographed by Cordes’s staff and students.
Whether you’re an arts enthusiast or looking for a fun night out with friends, the “ARTigras Variety Show” will have you toe tapping and clapping all night long. The event is free to the public. Snacks and drinks are available for purchase. The event is made possible by generous sponsorship from Cornerstone DeKalb LLC, Weaver Construction, and Cronauer Law.
