CCT of DeKalb County will provide students with an interest in theatre a trip into the dust lands of the west where cacti grow and tumbleweeds drift at its Beginner’s Imagination Camp, scheduled for June 11-21. The theme for the two week theatre camp is “Wild Wild West.” In its 8th year, Beginner’s Imagination Camp is open to students who will be in Kindergarten through 6th grade in the fall of 2013. Camp session runs from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. each day at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Brickville Road in Sycamore and concludes with a performance for family and friends on Friday, June 21 at a local theatre in the area.
“With the O’Connell Theatre officially under renovation, we were faced with finding a new location for camp,” said Julie Breidenbach, Coordinator of the summer camp. “We are confident that St. John’s offers us the space needed to provide an amazing opportunity for students interested in theatre.”
Cost of the two week camp is $95 and includes daily instruction, as well as participation in the two public performances. Children will learn all aspects of beginner’s theatre including music, dance, art, stage combat, auditioning, performing, stage combat and much more.
“We do our best to keep the cost of our camp as low as possible,” said Breidenbach. “We realize that times are still tough, and for about $7 a day, we hope your children can be a part of this, too.”
CCT also will return with the 7th edition of its Advanced Imagination Camp, designed for students entering 7th grade through 12th grade in fall 2013, and also includes graduating seniors.
Advanced Camp also runs for two weeks, June 17-30 and will culminate with four performances of the popular 1950’s genre musical, “Grease.”
In the performance based experience, students will be charged with auditioning for, creating, rehearsing and staging a full length musical in just two weeks.
Students will learn the essential skills needed to ace and audition, the tips and secrets to on-stage performance, as well as the songs, dialogue and choreography to the musical.
“Advanced Camp is much more intense,” added Breidenbach. “We literally put on a full scale musical in just two weeks, and students are treated to every aspect of on-stage performance.”
Every student will receive and on-stage role in the production. While other aspects of musical theatre instruction will be included, much of the emphasis of the Advanced Camp is placed in on-stage performance.
Cost of the two week camp is $125 and includes daily instruction; a “Grease” cast T-Shirt, participation in four public performances and a dinner during a dress rehearsal.
