In our DeKalb Mayoral Candidate Survey we asked the candidates to ask a question of each of their opponents including one to themselves. All four candidates participated in this section of the survey. The top row or header section of the calendar below contains a photo of each candidate. The column below each candidate are the questions they asked of their competitors. The candidates may choose to answer the questions posed to them here in the comment section. We welcome their participation. Remember the Chamber of Commerce candidate night is Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Egyptian Theatre. The event is open and free to the public. The schedule is 5:30-6:30 PM – Meet & Greet Local Election Candidates; 6:30 PM – Town Hall Meeting/Debate.

I do not have an official role with the John Rey campaign, but I can provide an interim response until someone from the John Rey campaign responds. The address listed is the office address of the CPA who is John Rey’s Campaign Treasurer. I believe the Treasurer lives in DeKalb but has an office on Bethany Road in Sycamore.
Mark Kerman, CPA, serves a treasurer of the ‘John Rey for Mayor’ campaign. He is a voter in the City of DeKalb. His office is on Bethany Road with a Sycamore address. We filed the campaign with his office address to expedite receipt of paperwork. We do maintain a P.O. Box at the DeKalb post office.
Thank you, DeKalb County Online, for posting these questions.
Please see my responses below from each candidate and myself.
Mr. Jacobson,
It is unfortunate, but acceptable, when units of government operate at a deficit. My view is to limit those occurrences by establishing controls within the purview of the governmental body. There are a number of factors including, but not limited to; unexpected reductions in federal and state funding, unforeseen significant increases in health insurance costs and variances due to sudden economic changes. Any governmental unit must maintain adequate fund balances to overcome these instances.
Ms. Groce,
I intend, once elected, to make a full-time commitment to serving as DeKalb Mayor. This commitment will be managed around my current full-time working career. I was able to perform a similar effort, as School Board President, from 2007-2011 as I; planned for and oversaw our School District Capital Improvement Plan, participated on numerous committees and worked with my Board colleagues and Superintendent in preparation of our agenda. I will proceed with the same vigor, beginning next month as your Mayor, with the support of my family at home and my colleagues at work.
Mr. Rey,
Please see my response to Ms. Groce above. My organization and time management assets supported many accomplishments during my leadership of our School District. Please refer to my website (www.mikeverbicformayor) or past article on the DeKalb County Online to review those results. I will continue this commitment to you and our community when I lead DeKalb as your next Mayor.
To Myself,
My experience in leading our Board of Education, and community, toward our successful; Capital Improvement Plan, growth in our partnership with NIU and oversight of $60 million plus operating budget has best prepared me to lead DeKalb as your next Mayor.
You may hear more about my plans for leading DeKalb on the “Vote Mike Verbic DeKalb Mayor” radio show every Thursday morning from 9:10 am to 9:30am on WLBK AM 1360, FM 98.9 and http://wlbkradio.com/ through the election.
Please vote Mike Verbic for Mayor on April 9th!

I would like John Rey to Answer this question: Why is he the only Candidate running for Mayor of DeKalb to (according to the board of elections) have his mayoral campaign committee ” JOHN REY FOR MAYOR” listed as a Sycamore Address? Why NOT in DeKalb?
