Business Update: Facebook Comes to DeKalb
Facebook announced this morning that they will be investing $800 million to create a new data center that will be built in DeKalb (IL). The facility will support an estimated 100 jobs.
The modern 907,000 square-foot facilities will be Facebook’s 15th data center globally. The complex will be supported by 100 percent renewable energy and will use 80% less water than an average data center. The construction of the facility will provide hundreds of construction jobs.
“We are excited that Facebook chose DeKalb,” said City Manager Bill Nicklas. “The City of DeKalb, along with NIU and Kishwaukee College is committed to the growing exposure to high-tech technology.”
