The Lehan Drugs’ Daisy Dash was started as a way to kick off Women’s Health Week and as an opportunity to raise additional funds for cancer programs. Lehan’s chose to give to the mammography fund so no one has to go without getting a mammogram, no matter the person’s financial circumstances. This year’s proceeds will also go to Safe Passage, the area’s domestic violence shelter in DeKalb.
The Daisy Dash got its name because one of the original owners’ wife was diagnosed with breast cancer and her favorite flower was the daisy. Lehan’s wanted the Dash to be a family-friendly community event which is why they start and end in their parking lot and the route encompasses the surrounding neighborhood sidewalks.
