Watch out on the county roads this Sunday, July 17th as Biking with Beanzie sends hundreds of bike riders biking through DeKalb County. Biking with Beanzie is a recreational ride sponsored by Kishwaukee Kiwanis Club of DeKalb and supported by many local businesses. The ride route consists of primarily flat rural roads with some rolling terrain with options to ride 23, 46, 64, 80, or 101 miles. Past rides have gone through scenic Lake Shabbona State Park and the Lee County windmill farm.
All roads are well-paved, lightly traveled and posted with signs containing ride information and bits of Beanzie humor. All ride routes are provided with rest stops and water stops, regardless of the length of the route chosen. Bagels, fruit, beverages and a variety of other food options will be provided at rest stops. The ride is easy to navigate with well-marked routes, route maps, and cue sheets. Friendly sag wagon drivers are knowledgeable about the route and bicycling.
As a rider of the Biking with Beanzie event, you will be investing in our community. BWB is a family event that promotes exercise and family fun with some recent rides having over 500 riders from the tri-state area. Profits from this project go to support the Kishwaukee Bike Pathway Projects and other projects within DeKalb County helping to make DeKalb County a better place to live.
The start and end of the ride is at DeKalb High School, 1515 S. 4th Street, in DeKalb. All riders are strongly encouraged to wear helmets. Post ride activities include access to the DHS showers, towels (for a nominal fee) and ice cold watermelon and other tasty treats. The cost is $30 for adults, age 15 & under rider is free with paid adult rider. For much more information please visit the Kishwaukee Kiwanis website.
