Mark Biernacki, former DeKalb City Manager, has done a lot of traveling since his retirement, and he’s documented his adventures in a travel blog called “Paint the Map.” Many people have told him that they enjoy his travel blog and mentioned that he should write a book some day. So he did.
Bernacki recently published, “A House for Books: Volunteering and Adventure in the Shadow of Kilimanjaro,” a nonfiction narrative account of his experiences while traveling, volunteering, and climbing mountains in Tanzania, Africa.

Biernacki is pledging 100% of the net proceeds from all sales through June 30, 2019 to support the efforts of Tanzania Development Support, a DeKalb-based non-profit organization co-founded by NIU professor, Kurt Thurmaier. So, in addition to what Bernacki hopes is a good story to add to your library, your purchase will also serve as a donation to a great cause.
Bernacki is still working on getting the book listed on Amazon, so if a Kindle is your preferred reader, let him know so that he can send you an email once it becomes available. He would also love to receive any feedback or input you may have should you choose to buy and read his book, and if you’re inclined he would greatly appreciate you adding a review to your e-reader site.
