Learn ‘How to Be a Better Watchdog’ at NIU this Thursday, September 21st, from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at NIU’s Cole Hall. BGA Watchdog Training teaches you how to keep an eye on government and find out what’s happening in your community. In this training, experts will help you understand government, the Open Meetings Act and the Freedom of Information Act.
Presented by the NIU Dept. of Communication, the Better Government Association, and the Northern Illinois Newspaper Association, this information-packed program will help everyone become better watchdogs of government at all levels. The program features an in-depth look at the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Matt Topic, a prominent Chicago attorney with expertise in FOIA and governmental transparency, will lead the program. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. 3 ways to register: 1. Use your smartphone and scan the QR code on the flyer. 2. Visit this website. 3. Sign up on site.
Parking is also free. NIU’s Cole Hall shows up on GPS at 1425 W Lincoln Highway in DeKalb. For more information, call Annum Haider at (312) 821-9031 or email at ahaider@bettergov.org. Special thanks to the McCormick Foundation for supporting BGA civic engagement programming.
