Pepper Construction had a serious problem at Northwestern Grayslake’s new Surgery Center in Grayslake, Il. recently. Northwestern Grayslake Hospital’s 2011, $49 million expansion consists of 70,900 square feet in new construction with the surgery center as its centerpiece.
The expansion was awarded LEED Certification by the US Green Building Council. LEED is a performance oriented system designed for rating buildings based on energy and environmental principles for sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor air quality and innovation and design process.
A 4″ diameter electrical pipe that joined the new surgery center expansion to the existing outpatient center was broken under the new concrete foundation and leaking ground water into the existing outpatient center’s electrical panel room at an uncontrollable rate.
The expense to correct the problem was thought to be astronomical and the ground water in the electrical room was extremely dangerous. Pepper Construction called in Ben Franklin Plumbing of Northern Illinois and Perma-Liner to solve the problem. The problem was solved quickly and at a fraction of the cost.
