Local DeKalb County Illinois veteran Frank Beierlotzer has been elected Grand Chef de Gare of Grande Voiture d’ Illinois of La Societe Des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux on July 23, 2016. In simple terms he is the Commander of Illinois in the not for profit national veteran organization of the Forty and Eight.
Originally the Forty and Eight was established in 1920 by members of the American Legion. The founders based the organization on their experiences in World War I. The box car of the French railways, which carried forty men (quarante hommes) or eight horses (huit chevaux) to and from the front, is the symbol (40/8) of the national organization.
Locally the DeKalb County 40/8, Voiture 207 provides nursing scholarships yearly for two Kishwaukee College students enrolled in the Nursing Program. To find out more about the 40/8, you can go to the website www.illfortyandeight.com or contact Frank by email at ffb66@juno.org.
