August is quickly approaching and with these warm days bees quickly become a part of any outdoor activity. Last year, volunteers at the Sycamore History Museum began to notice a few more bees than usual. After making several phone calls, Carolyn and Frank Hudon offered to come to the Museum to investigate. They quickly discovered that the Sycamore History Museum had become the home to thousands of bees.
This Thursday, August 1, 2013, Carolyn Hudon will talk about how the bees were removed from the Museum grounds, along with additional information related to bees including bee keeping, bee removal and even bee rental. The Hudons own Hudon’s Honey in Genoa. They were responsible for taking down the hive in the museum and making a new home for the bees. The hive at the museum posed a challenge because it was located inside and near the top of the corn crib’s exterior wall. After a couple of hours the hive was removed and one its way to the Hudon’s business.
August’s Brown Bag lunch will take place Thursday at the Sycamore History Museum, 1730 N. Main Street in Sycamore from noon to 2pm. The program is free and open to the public. Donations are welcome. Coffee and cookies are provided. For more information call 815-895-5762. August Brown Bag Lunch, “Bees” for more information.
