October brings several fun things for the kids to do. What about the adults? Indian Valley Theatre has the perfect Halloween season date night with its production of Arsenic and Old Lace at the Sandwich Opera House.

Michele Wade (Abby Brewster), Kristen Lehner (Elaine Harper) and Ahren Lehner (Mortimer Brewster) practice a scene for IVT’s Arsenic and Old Lace.
Arsenic and Old Lace is one of American theatre’s funniest dark comedies by the American playwright Joseph Kesselring. It was written in 1939 and has become best known through the film adaptation starring Cary Grant and directed by Frank Capra. The elderly Brewster sisters are the town darlings, but they have a little secret. Their nephew Mortimer discovers they are ‘helping’ lonely gentlemen boarders to early graves in the cellar by way of homemade, arsenic-laced wine! Add a brother who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt, a criminal on the run, and the girl Mortimer wants to marry, and you have a recipe for hilarity.
Arsenic and Old Lace is directed by Kathie Hart of Somonauk and produced by Matt Johnson of Newark. The cast features Michele Wade of Sandwich as Abby Brewster, Linda Johnson of Somonauk as Martha Brewster, Ahren Lehner of Sandwich as Mortimer Brewster, Matt Johnson of Newark as Jonathon Brewster, Greg Peterson of Earlville as the Rev. Dr. Harper, Kristen Lehner of Sandwich as Elaine Harper, Jim Stott of Yorkville as Dr. Einstein, Gina Palmer of Plano as Officer O’Hara, Andrea McNeal of Sandwich as Lt. Rooney, Mark Wade of Aurora as Officer Brophy, Rich Bryan of Sandwich as Mr. Gibbs, Aaron Moorman as Teddy Brewster, Chris Johnson of Newark as officer Klein and Thomas Merkel of Sandwich as Mr. Witherspoon.
