Beginning today, February 28, 2013, any eligible voter is able to vote in person or by mail. To ensure Voters have a clear understanding of all the voting opportunities: Voting by mail is officially called, “Absentee Voting.” Election Law in Illinois has changed to allow for both voting by mail and voting in person for “Absentee Voting.” Voters should also be aware that all absentee ballot voting is “No Excuse” voting; meaning you do not need to provide a reason for voting prior to Election Day.
Voting by mail:
If you wish to vote absentee, by mail, for the April 9, 2013 Consolidated Election you will need to: Complete the “Application for an Absentee Ballot,” which can be procured at www.votedekalb.com or by calling the office at 815.895.7147 . Return the application as soon as possible to ensure you receive your actual ballot with an appropriate amount of time to ensure its return to the DeKalb County Clerk’s offices. The Application must be received no later than April 4, 2013.

When your application is received you will be sent a ballot to the mailing address you specify on your application. In order for the ballot to be counted on Election Day, the ballot must be returned to the County Clerk’s office by April 9, 2013. If returning by mail it must be postmarked by midnight the DAY BEFORE the election.
Voting in Person:
Voting in person during this period is considered “Absentee In-Person.” Again, there is no excuse needed by the voter to vote during this period. Persons interested in voting in person during this period may do so by visiting the DeKalb County Sycamore campus:

Voters should provide a valid photo ID when voting in person to expedite processing.
NOTE: The Traditional Period of Early Voting begins on March 25, 2013 with locations opening at NIU, (DeKalb); Sandwich; and Kirkland. More details will be forthcoming on those centers.
Deadlines:
Any person wishing to apply to vote absentee by mail, must submit an application to the DeKalb County Clerk & Recorder’s Election office NO LATER than April 4, 2013.
Any person wishing to vote in person before Election Day, may do so UP TO 4:00 PM on April 8, 2013.
The official deadline to register to vote is March 12, 2013. March 13 through April 6, 2013, is Grace Period Voting, meaning that non-registered voters can register and then must vote at the same time.
